PRACTICE
NAVIGATION CONTEST
Spring has arrived and it is time to plan your boating
agenda for the summer. The Dundalk Sail
& Power Squadron is hosting the Upper Bay Practice Navigation Contest this
year on June 23. This is an opportunity
to tune your boat and crew for the District contest. You learn a lot by observing and practicing
boating skills in a competitive surrounding.
The minimum crew size consists of a helmsman, a navigator
and an observer. The observer, a member
of another squadron, observes that you follow the rules. You, also, have a member from your squadron
act as an observer on a boat from a different squadron. Larger boats can add additional crew members
such as; timekeepers, bearing takers, assistant navigators, etc.
The practice contest is in late June but we need to
answer your questions now and start training as required. We need to make speed curves, deviation
tables, etc. and you will be able to benefit from the experience of previous
contest captains and crew members. We
will also review the contest rules.
